Doug's Story – Giving back brings many rewards

Doug decided to volunteer with the Arthritis Society after completing the six-week Arthritis Self-Management Program. This proved to be such a positive experience that he went on to complete a trainers’ course.

Doug likes being involved in a program offered by ordinary folk who can relate first-hand to other participants.  He says that "The opportunity to assist with facilitating Chronic Pain Workshops has been a wonderful experience. The reaction of participants to these workshops clearly reinforces the need for such programming. As a volunteer for the Arthritis Society I receive more than I give."

Volunteers Say...

"Being a volunteer is something I recommend.... It is one of the most meaningful activities for anyone of any age. People who give the gift of time always feel good for doing so.  It has a positive impact on their well-being, self-esteem and mental health."

Dr. Michael Gordon, Baycrest Centre, Toronto
