Murray's Story – One volunteer opportunity leads to another
Murray, age 57, from Southern Ontario, started out as a regular blood donor, donating blood plasma. Over the years, his volunteer involvement has grown. Because Murray enjoys interacting with people on many different levels, he is now a Donor Ambassador, assisting first-time donors through the donation process so they feel comfortable and are happy to return and donate again. He provides excellent customer service at mobile blood donor clinics and acts as Lifebus driver, making sure that donors arrive on time for their scheduled appointments.

Did You Know?
Volunteering is a way to bolster community ties. It offers individual rewards, too. According to the Canadian Community Health Survey, "Close to two-thirds of those who felt a very strong or somewhat strong sense of community belonging reported excellent or very good general health."
Statistics Canada, Health Reports, June 2008
